Publishing & Sharing
Once you've configured your project's settings, questions, and integrations, it's time to make it live and share it with respondents. This guide covers how to publish your project and distribute the interview link effectively.
Publishing Your Project#
How to Publish#
From the project edit page, locate the Published toggle switch (usually in the top-right corner or settings panel). Toggle it to the "on" position to make your interview link accessible.
Published vs. Unpublished#
- Published: The interview link is live and accessible to anyone with the URL. Respondents can start conversations.
- Unpublished: The interview link displays a "not available" message. Use this state when you're still configuring the project or want to temporarily disable responses.
Your project must be published AND your organization must have remaining conversation credits for respondents to start interviews. If you're out of credits, they'll see an error message.
Sharing Your Interview Link#
Link Format#
Every project gets a unique interview link in this format:
yourcompany.diaform.io/c/projectId
- yourcompany: Your custom subdomain (configured in Organization Settings)
- projectId: A unique identifier for your project
Custom Subdomain Setup#
By default, your organization is assigned a random subdomain. To set a custom subdomain like acme.diaform.io, go to Organization Settings and update the subdomain field.
Custom subdomains make your links more professional and on-brand. They're included in all Diaform plans, including during the 14-day trial.
The Share Modal#
Diaform provides a built-in share modal to make distribution easy. From the project edit page, click the Share button to access:
- Copy Link Button: One-click copy to clipboard
- QR Code Generator: Generate a QR code for physical materials, posters, or presentations
Using QR Codes#
QR codes are perfect for offline sharing. Use them on:
- Product packaging
- Event signage or booths
- Printed receipts or invoices
- Physical marketing materials
- Conference slides or handouts
Simply scan the QR code with a smartphone camera to open the interview instantly.
Distribution Channels#
Here are proven ways to share your interview link:
Email#
Include the link in:
- Email signatures
- Transactional emails (order confirmations, shipping notifications)
- Newsletter campaigns
- Post-purchase follow-ups
Example CTA: "We'd love to hear your thoughts—share your feedback here"
Websites#
Embed the link on:
- Homepage or footer
- Post-purchase "Thank You" pages
- Product pages
- Customer support portals
Example: Add a sticky button that says "Give Feedback" linking to your interview.
Social Media#
Share the link on:
- Twitter, LinkedIn, or Facebook posts
- Instagram bio links
- Community forums or Slack channels
Tip: Frame it as "We're listening—tell us what you think" to encourage engagement.
Slack or Internal Channels#
For B2B products or internal research:
- Post the link in customer-facing Slack channels
- Share in community forums
- Include in onboarding messages
SMS or Chat#
Send the link via:
- SMS campaigns
- In-app chat widgets
- WhatsApp or Telegram
Example: "Thanks for signing up! Share your thoughts: [link]"
Best Practices for Sharing#
- Add context: Always explain why you're asking for feedback and how long it will take.
- Be specific: Tell respondents what topic you're exploring (e.g., "Help us improve our mobile app").
- Incentivize: Consider offering a discount, gift card, or entry into a raffle for completed interviews.
- Timing matters: Share the link when respondents are most engaged (e.g., right after a purchase or feature launch).
- Follow up: If someone doesn't respond, send a gentle reminder a few days later.
Pre-Flight Checklist#
Before sharing your interview link, make sure:
- Your project is published
- You have remaining conversation credits
- All questions are configured and tested
- The start message is welcoming and clear
- Integrations (if any) are set up correctly
- You've tested the interview yourself on desktop and mobile
Test your interview link in an incognito browser window before sharing it publicly. This ensures everything works as expected for first-time respondents.
